Our country house"The house with blue windows" is an old farmhouse from the early 1900s recently renovated, located on the north-western side of the Maiella Park, in the territory of Abbateggio, a small and charming town that is part of the most beautiful villages in Italy, located between Roccamorice and Caramanico Terme. The house with blue windows is only 10' from the Alanno-Scafa exit of the A25.
Its dominant position and the blue windows make it clearly visible as you walk along the road that leads to the Maiella park. It is also located exactly at the entrance to the path to the Cusano waterfalls (temporarily closed to the public).
The country house has 20 beds: 2 double bedrooms with bathroom, one of which has no architectural barriers, a suite and three apartments consisting of a double bedroom and a living room with kitchenette.
Each accommodation (with the exception of the suite on the second floor) has an independent entrance and its own outdoor area with table, chairs and umbrella.
Guests can take advantage of a panoramic terrace from which you can enjoy the wonderful sunsets behind the Gran Sasso
We offer our guests a rich breakfast with handcrafted and possibly km0 products.
Just 5' from the farmhouse there are typical restaurants and you can also request take-away food to be eaten on our terrace, in the breakfast room or comfortably seated at the tables outside your rooms.
Our accommodations are all different from each other, are very welcoming and adapt to various needs.
We have two double bedrooms and three apartments consisting of a double bedroom and living room with sofa bed and kitchenette, all with independent entrances and at least one overlooking the Gran Sasso and the Pescara Valley and one
Inside the building, on the second floor, we have a suggestive 32 m2 suite with 4 super panoramic French windows.

At breakfast in our buffet, in addition to the classic bread, butter and jam, you will always find fresh and zero km products, such as the Soffione cake typical of these areas, the "pizzelle" or ferratelle, the local ricotta and other delights.
(Due to covid, we had to temporarily introduce changes: instead of the buffet, breakfast is served at the tables and some products must necessarily be single portions)

At modest prices we can offer you a dogsitting service for when you want to go for walks within the reserves, where to protect the wildlife, but also your friend who could get lost chasing it, dogs are not allowed. Or for when you want to do some activity they can't participate in.

The farmhouse is completely surrounded by greenery, has a large terrace and is surrounded by eight hectares of private forest and olive trees . The surrounding areas are equipped with benches, tables and deckchairs where you can relax, read, walk, paint, write...
Room cleaning
Your rooms, as well as the linen we provide you, are completely sanitized.
During your stay, the rooms will be made up every two days and to avoid energy waste, we will change the linen on request.
We have free wifi in the common areas, and in most of the accommodations; unfortunately the walls are very wide and we cannot guarantee that it will work in all rooms.

What to visit
The Maiella Park, with its biodiversity, its fauna and its varied landscapes (from the high peaks of Monte Amaro, Rapina, Pizzo Falcone, Maielletta to the luxuriant Valle dell' , Orfento, or dell'Orta, to the beech forest of Lama Bianca and many other enchanted woods). The hermitages of Celestine V, (here in the surroundings we have four of them that are part of the Camino dello Spirito). Visits to the villages of Abruzzo with car trips of a few km:
Caramanico Terme, Roccamorice, Abbateggio, Roccacaramanico, Corfino and with an hour's drive Campo di Giove, Scanno with the Sagittarius Gorges and its famous lake at heart, Sulmona, the Fara San Martino gorges, Guardiagrele, Pennadomo, Pennapedimonte.
In these areas winds, also, what is called "The path of the spirit"
e which connects the Celestinian hermitages, some more easily reachable even by car, such as Santo Spirito, others require a little training, such as San Giovanni or at least a walk, such as San Bartolomeo and Sant' Onofrio .
They are suggestive places, incredibly set in the rock, which form with the wild nature that surrounds them one whole.
Another place not to be missed is the Giumentina valley located in a panoramic plateau where it is not difficult, especially in the mating season, to spot majestic deer enjoying themselves after winning the battle with the rival. In the Giumentina Valley, one of the first human settlements in Abruzzo, there is also an archaeological site where you can walk inside the perfect reproduction of a Tholos village. (There is also a small bar here). And then the Holy Face preserved in the basilica of Manoppello, the Romanesque church of San Tommaso, the basilica of San Clemente a Casauria, San Liberatore in Serramonacesca and the rock tombs, Santa Maria Arabona in Manoppello, the Sistine chapel of Abruzzo: the oratory of San Pellegrino in Bominaco, the suggestive Rocca Calascio and in autumn the flowering of saffron on the Navelli plateau, classified third as the most beautiful village in Italy in 2022. These are only suggestions, but there is still so much more....come and see it for yourself!
Sports activities
One of the most practiced activities is hiking along the hundreds of paths that wind through the Maiella Park.
For lovers of free climbing, 15' from here is one of the most beautiful crags in Italy, the Orso di Roccamorice wall with more than 300 routes, but many others can also be reached, such as that of Caramanico_cc781905-5cde -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ and Pennapedimonte.
For those who prefer cycling, there are mountain bike trails and also the possibility of making excursions with and by bike with or without a guide.
The activities don't end here there is the possibility to do horse riding and canoe trips on the river Tirino, guided excursions and much more relying on the expert guidance of associations who operate in the area offer busy calendars of activities such as Majellando or Majambiente. In winter the Maiella and the Morrone offer interesting itineraries where you can practice ski mountaineering.
But it is also possible to skiing on the slopes at Passo Lanciano and at the Block House, on the Maielletta. Then there are countless snowshoe hikes organized by the various associations which traditionally end up with polenta.

We have made splendid walks in nature, among olive trees, the forest and the river. Highly recommended. We will be back even for longer stays than a weekend.

Donatella's welcome, the ancient and modern beauty of the house and the breathtaking location make everything unforgettable. The rooms are welcoming and have a taste mixed between the past and the present which helps to enter the spirit of Abruzzo. The optimal position in relation to numerous paths and trails makes fascinating walks simple. The atmosphere around the house and in the house is one of coziness and space, both for oneself and for sharing. Sometimes, we say frequently, it happens that a funny flat cloud forms in the sky above the house, a sort of UFO cloud which, hanging there, underlines the uniqueness of a house that one would never want to leave.
